Why now?

There is growing demand for organisations of all sizes and sectors to improve the impact they have on the environment.  This requires them to first understand and measure the impacts they have in the course of their operations, then to take action to reduce their impact, and to be able to report on this process in a meaningful and credible manner.

The drivers are coming from:

Climate change - Emissions targets are a reality for a growing number of organisations, and are proving hard to meet

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) - An important element of public, private and COMPETITIVE corporate activity

Government & regulatory compliance - Carbon tax is already a reality in many markets and this and other compliance regimes will be introduced in coming years.

Operational efficiency & good practice – Reducing your environmental impact increases business efficiency & contributes to the bottom line. So it makes excellent business sense!

The challenge

Companies and public sector bodies are under massive and growing pressure to act quickly to reduce their negative impact on the environment. Even without headline-grabbing oil spills and global warming debates, the pressure for action has been growing and legislators around the world are starting to put rules in place.

On the positive side, research has repeatedly shown the benefits for organisations of a good environmental record – increased sales, higher margins, improved customer satisfaction and retention, better staff motivation, and competitive differentiation are all enjoyed by those organisations that get it right.

But there is a widespread lack of information, understanding, expertise and processes to manage and reduce the environmental impact of organisations. Organisations need more assistance, and they need useful tools that can give them meaningful results in a short time – not after months or years of research.
