The Sustain4 Solution - Environmental performance management

Sustain4 is the fastest, most reliable system for understanding and improving your organisation’s environmental performance and business sustainability.

It is the only Environmental Performance Management solution that takes standard business data and shows how your organisation impacts the environment. It lets you make business decisions on where to focus for maximum improvement and helps you engage with and manage your suppliers as part of that process.

When we say fast, we mean fast. You can get started immediately – a Skyline report that models your environmental impacts takes just 15 minutes. Without Sustain4, that could take you literally months or even years of monitoring and measurement to achieve. It can even benchmark you against others in your sector.

You can then go further, step by step refining the measurement and understanding of your direct impacts, and those of your suppliers. Up to six levels of granular business data can be uploaded, to generate a detailed environmental profile report. Further measurement can then be performed in order to better understand key areas of impact, including drilling down into the supply chain and getting suppliers to submit their own data into Sustain4, to further enhance your own measurement.

All of this data can be accessed through a powerful on-demand environmental dashboard, to allow on-going monitoring and allow executives to identify issues and drill-down rapidly to assess each situation.

It uses this to create a model that converts financial and business data into environmental impacts.

What Sustain4 does

Sustain4 takes your organisation-specific financial and business data – things like industry sector, turnover, geography, operations, employees etc – and compares them with research data from thousands of organisations worldwide from 464 industry sectors of their impacts across 700 environmental indicators. By doing this Sustain4 produces an environmental impact report of your organisation across areas including:

- Greenhouse gas emissions

- Natural resource usage

- Air pollutants

- Land and water pollutants

- Water consumption

- Waste production.

With Sustain4 you can drill down and refine your environmental reporting further by extending the reporting process into the supply chain, managing the collection and submission of supplier data and assessing its impact.

What Sustain4 does NOT do

Sustain4 does not do:

- Carbon accounting

- environmental lifecycle analysis of your products

The Skyline report is a simple, yet incredibly powerful, snapshot of the environmental impacts of your organisation. Modelled in a matter of minutes from your financial and business data, it gives your executive team a massive headstart in working out where best to focus efforts to reduce your footprint, fast.

In a single graphic, you get a view of four different dimensions of corporate environmental impact:

• The Environmental Skyline assesses the performance of an organisation across six broad groups of environmental KPIs: greenhouse gases, water, waste, air pollutants, natural resource use, and land/water pollutants. Environmental impacts are not just about carbon, and the Environmental Skyline gives you exactly that broader perspective, which is practically impossible to get without access to Trucost's data.
• Most organisations struggle to assess their direct impacts, let alone their indirect supply chain impacts. The Environmental Skyline offers an immediate assessment of the scale of direct and indirect environmental impacts an organisation is causing, for each of the broad groups of environmental KPIs listed above.
• Each environmental KPI in the Environmental Skyline is offered as a comparison to a sector benchmark, where an index of 100 represents average performance in the sector. The higher the index rating, the worse the performance of the organisation compared to its peers.
• At the top right hand corner of the Environmental Skyline, Trucost provides an overall assessment of an organisation's environmental performance through a star rating. Three stars represents above average performance in your sector, two stars show average performance, and one star represents below-average performance.

In essence, Trucost's Environmental Skyline offers a valuable assessment of an organisation's performance, covering issues that are near-impossible to assess without the use of Trucost's powerful data model and methodology.

[Supply Chain Management]

Understand your supply chain

One of the powerful aspects of Sustain4 is its ability to help you understand your supply chain, including managing the process of collecting, organising and analysing definitive data from your many suppliers.

This can be a time- and resource-consuming task, but with Sustain4 the process is drastically simplified. Such is the extent of the data in Sustain4, many of your suppliers may already be in the system; if not, you simply need to get them to sign up with Sustain4 and input their details. The system will do the rest.

Supply chain information

Sustain4 collects and structures data from your supply chain that is then used for environmental impact reporting on your supply chain inputs, i.e. scope 3 analysis. The process flows like this:
